It’s summer, the kids are home from school, and I’m trying to fit vacation, work, and the daunting task of cleaning out my parent’s house all into one month – and not really succeeding! I’m enjoying the season and my time with the family, certainly; just not finding enough time to squeeze everything in. So today I thought I’d dust off another past Poetry Friday post that I really liked. I wrote and posted it for my son back in Sept. 2013 when he was just 3 years old, and even though it’s not the most spectacularly-penned poem, it’s special to me because of the subject. Hope you like it! For all of today’s Poetry Friday links, head over to My Juicy Little Universe, where Heidi is hosting with a “definito!”

Love the poem and with the photo, too! The double meaning is good, Matt, and sweet to think about.

I’ve been noticing shadows more lately with the changing light. Precious poem. I like the picture too. Makes me want to write poems on pictures.

Thanks, Margaret. When I saw this photo my wife took, I was struck by how we were both so dark we almost looked like shadows ourselves….hence, the idea for the poem!

On the one hand, it’s sweet. On the other, it could be sinister too. May sound both like a promise and a threat. Haha. 🙂

Kinda reminds you of “Every Breath You Take” by The Police, doesn’t it? I hadn’t noticed that until you mentioned it. (Sting actually wrote that as a song about stalking; he says it’s disturbing to him that so many people were playing it at weddings!)

Hang in there, Matt, on a swing or otherwise…you’ve got a heavy combo going on! Your two shadows and the poem are very sweet, and it’s nice to come back to previous versions of our kids, isn’t it?

Well, he’s Mr. Nonfiction, so I’m not sure if he cares…but I’m sure he will once he’s old enough to understand. 😉
