Alas, I only had my phone with me to take this photo, otherwise I could have probably gotten a better shot. For all of today’s Poetry Friday happenings, be sure to visit our hostess, Renee LaTulippe, at The No Water River!

Gorgeous. oil-slick sky makes me sad…

Thank you, Laura! I felt like I needed to convey something besides the typical “beautiful” or “reverential” type of descriptor.

Great haiku, Matt. I tried to read it first thing on my phone but it was too small. I worry that my poems have shrunk but I do like a few choice words better than long and rambling these days.

Love this haiku Matt even though, like Laura said, it is a sad image “oil-slick sky” is a perfect image, as is your accompanying photograph.

The sun and moon are so far very faithful, aren’t they? I do hope we the earthlings can do our bit to redeem our planet.

Well, you know, as I was looking at the picture trying to discover what I was seeing, it occurred to me that the sky almost looked like an oil slick on the sea, taken from the point of view of being underwater, looking UP…and that’s what made the poem. It’s amazing to think how well the earth DOES bounce back from catastrophes like that – which makes me wonder how well it would be doing if it didn’t have to keep bouncing back!

My take…redemption…
make it through the oil slick of life, to beyond, where redemption lies for us.
Not a sad picture, but a hopeful one, to me anyway!

Mat, the photo is a marvelous one taken with just your phone but the poem is intense with its imagery, reflective, and leaves me lingering in its thought.
