I think Halloween haiku is a thing. Do you know the podcast haiku chronicles? They have an episode devoted to them. http://www.haikuchronicles.com/podcasts/2011/10/e21-halloween-extravaganza
Yours is gorgeous and spooky and inspirational!

I hadn’t heard of them, but will have to check them out – thanks!

Love your beginning share of Halloween poems/haiku, those ‘moon shadows rise’. Just the thought is spooky. Glad you shared, Matt.

Matt, what a lovely digital inspiration you have created. I especially like how you broke the lines. It allows me to anticipate the ending. I would like to include this one in Autumn’s Palatte Gallery because it shows the eerie, darkish side of autumn. What do you think? Please consider writing another one too. I am sure it is magnificent in NH this fall. (Pat already sent me his poems.)

This is a really eerie haiku. I love the visual with it. So what costumes will your little ones have this year. Can’t believe there are only three more weeks.
Thanks for sharing your work.

Thank you so much, Joy! My 5-year-old son wants to be a T-Rex (not sure how we’re going to do that, but last year he was a biplane, so a dinosaur shouldn’t be THAT hard!) His 2-year-old sister meanwhile, having hit the terrible two’s, already ACTS like a T-Rex sometimes….sigh.

Spoooookyyyy… thank you for bringing Halloween to an early October Poetry Friday! Sometimes anticipation is the best part, isn’t it?

Indeed! And in this case, the speaker may not want to be anticipating what is to come! Thanks, Irene.

So very evocative, Matt. Did you take the photo in your own backyard? It gives me the chills just looking at the combination of blue-black and and clouds.

Thank you, Diane. No, I did not take this…it was a photo I stumbled upon while searching through Photobucket – but I agree, the colors are quite stunning!

Too early for Halloween? Are you kidding? The grocery store was all done up for CHRISTMAS yesterday, with Halloween displays shrinking to a minimum, ready to be whisked into the fire in the hearth under where the stockings are already hung. Give. Me. A. Break. One holiday at a time and let us enjoy the easy playfulness of Halloween before we have to get into the politics of Christmas. Geez.
(Well, I guess you can tell THAT nerve is a bit tender…)

Ha, I know what you mean, Mary Lee. A friend recently received a charity’s solicitation letter in the mail, and it began, “With the holidays upon us now…” and he started yelling at it!
