You’ll have to forgive me as I’m a wee bit exhausted, having just gotten back home from a 5-day workshop sponsored by the Highlights Foundation at Highlights’ location in Honesdale, PA. Rebecca Kai Dotlich and Georgia Heard led a group of children’s authors and poets, Yours Truly included, along a journey of inspiration and education, and my brain is still trying to digest it all! It’s been 5 years since I attended one of these workshops – which I highly recommend – and I’ll be sure to provide a review of the experience here, sometime in the next couple of weeks, once I’ve recuperated.
Fortunately for me, Carol Varsalona just unveiled her newest poetry/photo gallery last week, The Art of Summering, and I’m proud to have 4 poems included! So today I thought I’d share her gallery, as it’s been a lot of work for her and she has once again outdone herself. I do hope you’ll spend some time enjoying the photography, artwork, and poetry by many of our Poetry Friday family members.
Still need more poetry? For today’s entire Poetry Friday roundup, please visit my friend Brenda Davis Harsham at Friendly Fairy Tales!

Ordering personalized signed copies online? Oh, yes, you can!
You can purchase personalized signed copies of Flashlight Night, (Boyds Mills Press, 2017), Don’t Ask a Dinosaur (Pow! Kids Books, 2018), and nearly ALL of the books or anthologies I’ve been part of!
Just click the cover of whichever book you want and send the good folks at MainStreet BookEnds in Warner, NH a note requesting the signature and to whom I should make it out to. (alternatively, you can log onto my website and do the same thing) They’ll contact me, I’ll stop by and sign it for you, and then they’ll ship it. Try doing that with those big online booksellers! (Plus, you’ll be helping to support local book-selling – and wouldn’t that make you feel good?)

Thanks, Linda – but no time to rest! I received two rejections in my email, so I need to send those babies out, plus I have 2 manuscripts I need to revise, 3 I need to start working on, AND a poem for Lee Bennett Hopkins (this is my priority), who contacted me half an hour before we held our first meet and asked if I’d be in another of his anthologies. No rest for the weary!

Sorry to have missed you at Highlights, Matt, and know it was a marvelous time as always. Carol’s gallery is very special, I agree. Now that the leaves are a torrent every day, I enjoy the final memories of summer.

I was thinking of you, Joy, and all the others from 5 years ago, Linda! Definitely an inspiring time. Leaves are in full blaze here and rapidly falling, but PA was still mostly green, which was a surprise.

I’m sure it was a fabulously rich workshop–I hope to attend it one year–perhaps after my daughter is out of college, or on a scholarship before. Looking forward to hearing about it.

One day I would love to attend a Highlights workshop. I hope to hear more from your experience, too. Thank you for sharing Carol’s Gallery. I missed last week–and a lot of good stuff, it seems.

The workshops there are like no other workshops you have ever attended, Kay. I highly encourage anyone interested in writing to go. They also offer partial and sometimes full tuitions, too. I will definitely be sharing more of my visit next week!
