Poetry Friday: Long Sands Anniversary

Last week, I shared the poem I wrote for my wife as part of my wedding vows 11 years ago. Today, I’m sharing a brand-new poem I wrote with her in mind.

This poem, written as a cherita with an extra stanza, as a way of remembering all the times we’ve walked along the shoreline of Long Sands Beach in York, Maine – our home-away-from-home. Our happy place. Some people buy their wives diamond rings for their anniversary; I write poems. But hey, it’s her own fault – she knew this going in, ha!

  1. A poem is a different kind of diamond anyway, only better. Each one is as unique as the giver and receiver. Your’s is beautiful. I love that highlight the sublime in ordinary routines.

  2. A poem is such a beautiful gift–the ultimate personal gift, really. I’m sure your wife treasures hers. I really like that this poem isn’t a typical walking-the-beach-together poem (though I enjoy those, too!), but instead has that element of –how did Jone put it?–outpacing the waves together.
