Poetry Friday: Willow Brook haiku

As soon as I saw this photo my wife had taken of the brook that runs behind our property (alternately known as Willow Brook or Tory Brook), I knew I had to write something to go along with it. I hope you’re enjoying your autumn…it’s hard to believe we’re already nearly a month into the season already!

For more poetry, be sure to check out today’s complete Poetry Friday roundup at Alphabet Soup, where Jama is spotlighting the newest book from my Once Upon Another Time collaborator, the wonderful Charles Ghigna – aka, Father Goose®!

Very proud to be a first-round judge in the CYBILS Poetry category, once again!

Ordering personalized signed copies online?
Oh, yes, you can!

You can purchase personalized signed copies of Flashlight Night, (Boyds Mills Press, 2017), Don’t Ask a Dinosaur (Pow! Kids Books, 2018), and nearly ALL of the books or anthologies I’ve been part of!

Just click the cover of whichever book you want and send the good folks at MainStreet BookEnds in Warner, NH a note requesting the signature and to whom I should make it out to. (alternatively, you can log onto my website and do the same thing) They’ll contact me, I’ll stop by and sign it for you, and then they’ll ship it. Try doing that with those big online booksellers! (Plus, you’ll be helping to support local book-selling – and wouldn’t that make you feel good?)

It was very difficult to read your haiku on the small photo… I managed to blow it up and read it, it’s beautiful. (as is the photo your wife took). I have many photos with haikus on them. Just ordered Laura Purdie Salas’ Lion n the Sky: Haiku for all seasons.

Lovely, Matt…especially considering all the “housework” you are doing presently. So much of us is connected to others. A gorgeous photo to write from.

  3. Matt, I do love this haiku image poem. It is a fabulous offering for my Abundant Autumn Gallery Collection. I am going to add the larger version to the Twitter cache now. I send compliments to your wife for taking the photo.

A beautiful little brook and poem, Matt. I can just see you perched next to it, notebook in hand, listening to the words bubble up in your imagination.

That is a gorgeous photo and haiku to match. Those leaves nestling stones are perfect for fall. I think we have a few of those nestling in the stones leading to our pond.
